[TR] Spring compressor

Thank you all for the help and suggestions. I am first going to try a macpherson strut spring compressor that I loaned from local parts shop first. That doesn’t work, off to the depot. Also, if anyone is in the central florida area and would like a free 62 TR4 frame and body tub. Come and get it soon. This car has seen some better days but it has some good sheet metal. I am stripping of most parts for spares for my 62. It has very very rusty floors and rockers and surface rust on all of the frame. The front engine area is very good as is the rear shelf and trunk area. I think this car was under water at some point and front part of frame has solid mud baked inside.

Cheers,

While I agree wholeheartedly with Bob's comment on threads, my "Home Depot" all-thread version has served me well through 15+ years and many suspension rebuilds. Put a little oil on the threads and it will outlast you. :-)

You can make one up from this pdf (http://tr6.danielsonfamily.org/Files/SpringCompressor.PDF) I always recommend getting ACME threaded rod and nuts from McMaster. The ACME thread is "stronger" than what's on a regular threaded rod.

TRF sells one. The "normal" clamp on compressors don't work on TR's very well at all.

The one TRF sells is basically a large piece of all-thread and a plate on the bottom. You can make your own easily and for just a few $$ and a trip to Home Depot.

Anyone know a good brand of coil spring compressor for TR4? I would like to purchase one, but one I borrowed from local parts place is too big to fit inside coil spring.

Thanks,
