[TR] Herman van den Akker

I had the honor of meeting him on several occasions at various VTR gatherings. He was very unassuming and modest in spite of his prominence in the community. And his wife Helen was equally charming.

I wish I could have met this man. To be so cared for and loved by so many is something we all hope for and few have. I hope Herman knew how many truly cared about his friendship and what it meant to them to call him "friend".

15 years ago (almost to the day) my grandson and I had the opportunity to visit Herman at his home in Pine Mountain Club. It had snowed. Helena stayed by the fire upstairs while Herman and I were in his workshop downstairs assembling a conversion tranny. My grandson made snow angels outside. I'll miss him.

Heartbreaking news indeed. He was one stand-up guy and touched just about everyone in the Triumph community in a good way. He will be missed, certainly by me.

We just heard from Helena that Herman has passed away, complications for pneumonia . More to follow Helena sending me eMail.

I cannot express how hurtful this tragedy is … Herman is/was One of a Kind … his loss … sorry I can’t go on.
