All the positive reasons Alex said. I went to a switched post under the bonnet, no desire to get behind the dash if I can avoid it.

The old mechanical fuel pump was bad and I already had promised the parade lap at lunchtime to one of my student employees. Answer – install an electric Facet pump. There’s not a lot of room on a GT6 and those pumps work best if they are mounted low on the car, preferably below the tank. I mounted it on the side of the left front frame section. For a “Sunday Night Special” modification, it worked great – we all enjoyed the parade laps at Lime Rock. Those pumps do make a “ticking” sound but you would never hear it when you are driving, in my opinion. A stock, mechanical pump is still available from one of the big two for about $40 but I needed to get this car running with only a 5 hour window to do the work. The other nice thing is that after a long storage time, the engine fires right up – no need to prime the carbs with excessive cranking as there was with the old pump. The other challenge was finding a path to run a switched 12V source to the pump and then fishing the wire around that incredibly tight dashboard/cowl area. I know that I should install an inertia safety switch but the car will be going up for sale sometime as I can no longer easily enter it or extract myself from it. If somebody wants the info, I can probably dig up the NAPA number for the pump that I used.
