Sounds like the isolation switch just needs to be threaded in slightly more so that the switch closes when in 3rd. Shouldn't take much. The 2nd gear could be the same issue IF you have an isolation switch installed.. if the switch is missing it means the top cover has to come off and disassembled to be able to drill and tap for a switch. May not be worth it. Possibly the wiring could be wrong for the 2nd gear setup though I can envision what that would take. Probably worth taking the car up on the lift to see if you can figure it out from below but most times the gearbox cover will come off for this kind of work. It could need to be a little tighter for third gear. OR sometimes the rubber shift boot bunches up where the shifter shaft hits in the front and doesn't go as far. It also needs another switch for 2nd gear. Perhaps they used a tranny top for a J OD which doesn't have a switch for 2nd gear. OR the 2nd gear switch doesn't work. Dean T. It is easy enough to adjust them but you will have to take the trans cover off to get to them, I don?t believe there is any way to do it from underneath. Your top cover may not have a the hole for a cut out switch, you would have to drill and tap it to install one. I just got it back and the OD seems to work perfectly in 4th gear. In Third, It will work for a short time, then goes out of OD. It appears that it is related to the isolator switch. If I gently push the shifter forward, it stays in OD just fine. If I pull it back slightly (still in 3rd), it does out of OD, and when I push it slightly forward again, OD re-engages. I have to say, not only did that give me a great resource for advise and parts, but it also introduced me to several folks I now consider among my best friends. I would never have had the patience to actually finish my TR3 without these lists. Thanks, guys and gals. Lately, I have been ?downsizing? and generally de cluttering. While cleaning out the garage one of the physically biggest ?tools? laying around is the powder coating equipment. Moving it all around has brought on a bad case of nostalgia, particularly for my good old friend Fred Thomas (?ft?). Fred and I (and several others) went together and purchased a large quantity of powder. Anyway, I would like to give something back to the lists. I have a TIP?s brand blast cabinet, an old electric range, a Chicago Electric static generator, a LOT of powder (probably 20-30 lbs, more than a lifetime?s worth ?), various blast cabinet parts, nozzles, glass protectors, etc., a bag of blast media, a couple of rolls of high temperature masking tape and all the related stuff. No charge to any list member. The only catch is that it has to be f.o.b Charleston, Illinois (180 miles due south of Chicago). It is much to bulking to ship but would be only a moderate pickup truck load. Please let me know if you are interested. I don?t mind storing it for a short period of time, but if no one here claims it soon, I will probably try to sell it locally. Blue skies, my friends. The answer is Yes to both queries, but not as an airfield. The original WW2 hangars are still there and very much in use by various companies involved in distribution logistics. The former Royal Air Force Control Tower at the north end has long been converted into a private house. Attached (? Hopefully) is an aerial picture of the airfield layout as it used to be. When in use as a storage park for newly built Standard and Triumph cars, all three runways (still just visible in the pic) were used for storage with cars parked in two parallel lines down the runway centres with two further single lines on each runway edge. Mostly, they were parked by model and wherever possible by colour within each model group - always assuming there was available space. This overall layout gave two free carriageways the full length of each runway for unobstructed vehicle movements in each direction. The runway intersects were obviously not used for vehicle parking. The tunnel still gets toasty but not nearly as bad as without either. The idea of a vent may be worth thinking about but you would need to pull air from somewhere other than below the engine area. That heat is already flowing back through the tunnel to ?escape?. Ideally, from somewhere in front of the engine, with the tube not getting close to the engine area &/or exhaust. Good luck. I will note I also did this to my old Healey 100, and it worked there to, and the big Healeys have a much bigger cockpit heat problem than the old TRs. A roll at the big box hardware store should be $20 dollars or so. Greg Lemon TR250 On Mon, Sep 18, 2023, 7:40 AM TeriAnn J. When it?s all done, it?ll appear (hopefully) via Amazon self-publishing as a print on demand. I might also re-publish the 1998 book in the same way at the same time. Originally, I did 1,000 copies and they sold out within a month. As the printer was still in business, he ran off another 7,000 copies of which only about 10 are still left. Can?t do that now as the guy who did the original 8,000 later sold his business, retired to live in Spain and died about two months after relocating. I?m hoping that someone out in Triumph world can provide some clarification on carburetors. Currently, Zenith Stromberg carbs on my 1975 TR6. The car has been running poorly since Trimphest (too many RPMs?). And then it died completely but turned out to need a new rotor. Asked the mechanic, Mike, to take a look at the everything to figure out what can be made better. What he found was the carbs were dumping gas into the cylinders especially when starting, to the point the gas was washing down the cylinder walls preventing the rings from sealing. Result was a lot of white smoke. The carbs were rebuilt about 18 months ago by Apple Hydraulics in New York. Supposedly all new parts including a new piston in one of the carbs. Mechanic Mike is questioning the quality but . . . Several paths to try: 1. New needles and basic over haul. Least expensive but maybe stopgap measure. 2. Rebuild these carbs using a different shop. Mike recommends a shop in Colorado. I?m would worry about a 2nd rebuild in short period of time. 3. Replace the carbs. 3a. Mike has a pair of SU carbs in good shape. Mike would replace ?consumables? and install 3b. Find a pair Stromberg carbs 3c. Mike likes carbs by Mikuni 3c. Replace with Webers Any ideas / suggestions on what path seems the best?
