Randy, thanks for the info. It would be wonderful if I could get my fingers onto the 3rd/4th switch from below to see if it has unscrewed itself a tiny amount somehow.

Same for verifying the PRESENCE of the 2nd gear switch.  

Thought to DO anything about it seems as if it will require pulling the interior.  

I am assuming the shop that did the removal and install will be willing to make this right.   And the shop that did the transmission could deal with the  control top, I suppose maybe without the need to pull the whole transmission??
