The recently announced Windsor Castle Concourse d'Elegance, on Sept. 7-9, is on course to be one of the most spectacular and important events in the motoring calendar. Sixty of the most stunning concourse cars from around the world have been invited to celebrate Her Majesty the Queen's Diamond Jubilee with a spectacular display to be held in the quadrangle of Windsor Castle. Invitations have been sent to America, Hawaii, Argentina, Europe and Britain and the entry list is now full.

The Kuwait Concourse d'Elegance 2012 was held Feb. 15-18 at Marina World in Kuwait City. In only three years, the Kuwait Concourse has jumped to one of the top-tier automotive events worldwide, an envious position for such a young event. Much credit is due to its organizers Paul Goldsmith and the team of Ahmad Al-Anzi and Zakaria Dhashti of the host Historical, Vintage and Classic Cars Museum.

Sir Stirling Moss' Porsche RS 61 will complete the lineup of Porsches on display as part of Race Retro's chosen marquee celebrations at Stoneleigh Park in England. One of only 14 built, Sir Stirling bought it at the Amelia Island Auction in Florida to mark his 30th Wedding anniversary. It will be joining a Porsche 962 Group C car in Blaupunkt livery, which was driven to third place overall at the Le Mans 24 Hours in 1988 by Frank Jelinski, John Winter and Stanley Dickens, which will be on static display along with other iconic racing Porsches.

As previously discussed, Subaru was always going to struggle to have its voice heard against Toyota with the whole GT 86/BRZ fraternal rivalry. But sticking a turbo and big wings on it and going racing in the Japanese Super GT looks like a good policy. And having unveiled the BRZ Super GT racer at the Tokyo show last year, Subaru has now been out testing. And boy does it look the business. Subaru has already signaled its intent with the BRZ by showing an STI concept version at Los Angeles last year, the familiar combination of WR Blue paint and a big wing transposed from the Impreza working very nicely on the new coupe.

Nearing the start of the 2012 FIA Formula One World Championship, which begins in Australia on March 16. Casual fans of F1 might be content to watch practicing, qualifying and the race on TV but those who are intent on following the intricate details want much more information. At the end of the 18th century, James Watt and other steam-engine makers needed a means of rating their machinery's capacity for work. Based on its faithful service as a power provider, the horse was deemed the logical yardstick. Experiments revealed that a typical draft horse could turn a 24-foot-diameter millstone 2.4 rotations in one minute with a sustained 180-pound tug. Using rudimentary physics, one horsepower was defined as 33,000 pound-feet per minute. Flash forward two-plus centuries to the current era, and the horses have, with the notable exception of the massive die-off in the 1970s, experienced a population explosion of staggering proportions.

The restoration of a 1965 Ford Mustang convertible for the Antique Automobile Club of American Museum in Hershey, Pa., has led to plans for a new major at the Pennsylvania College of Technology. Students at the special mission affiliate of Penn State restored the car for the museum in 2010. Last year, it won a first-place junior award at the club's America eastern regional meet.
