A lot of movie stars have gotten into racing cars in their spare time, but few, if any, were as good at it as Paul Newman. The actor began racing in the early 1970s, not long after starring as an Indianapolis 500 driver in the 1969 film "Winning." He continued to take to the track until shortly before his death in 2008. In between he amassed a long list of wins and impressive finishes in sports car racing including second place in the classic 24-Hour race at Le Mans, France in 1979.

Silverstone Auctions is to host the fantastic Race Retro and Classic Car Sale. But, this will be no ordinary motor sale. There will be no sign of a knackered Vauxhall Corsa, and not a hint of a rusting Escort. In fact, the sale room will be overflowing with some of the most fun-focused cars on the planet. And some of them are surprisingly affordable. Fifteen cars will be sold either without reserves, or with estimates of less than L10,000. There will be a Porsche 924 Turbo, for example, and a 1967 Morris Mini mk1. Both are finished with vibrant red paint and look super-stylish.

April 22 is "Drive It Day," a time for old motors to take to the roads to commemorate the 64 cars which took part in a "thousand mile trial" across Britain in 1900. A rally at Royal Bath and West Show Ground in Shepton Mallet will take place on the April 21-22 to coincide with the historic anniversary. Classic car clubs from across the area will be invited to finish their rallies at the event, and even show off their vehicles in a special VIP area near the exhibition halls.

The Ault Park Concours d'Elegance 2012 will be held June 10 at the historic Ault Park in Cincinnati, Ohio. More than 200 collector cars and motorcycles are expected for the event, which is celebrating its 35th anniversary this year. In a landmark case based on a 1930 Speed Six Bentley, judges ruled that a decision to award damages to a buyer because the vehicle had undergone major work since new "could not be relied on." American businesswoman Mercedes Brewer bought the L425,000 Bentley from a respected dealer in 2007 believing it to be in its original condition. But when she discovered it was not she successfully sued for L90,000 in damages despite Stanley Mann, who sold her the valuable model, insisting she was fully aware of its significant restoration prior to purchase.

The Concorso d'Eleganza Villa d'Este 2012 will be held on the weekend of May 25-27 over the grounds of the Grand Hotel Villa d'Este and neighboring Villa Erba on Lake Como in Cernobbio, Italy. The 2012 edition of the Villa d'Este Concours d'Elegance will again see a small grouping of the finest classic automobiles and motorcycles displayed against the incomparable backdrop of Lake Como. What can you do with an automotive degree in NASCAR? The answer is simple: work with a racing team and aim to become a member of the pit stop team. The NASCAR Nation explains that only six crew members have the opportunity to work on pit stops during a Sprint Cup series race. A seventh crew member remains on stand-by; if he is allowed to join the crew during a stop, he has the job of swiftly cleaning the windshield.

Bunker Lakes Inc., in Fort Wayne, Ind., which does business as Bunker Lakes Dealership, has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy, but it is unclear whether President Kristin McGrade will continue the operation or just try to settle her debts. McGrade is the wife of former auctioneer Dean Kruse. His auction company, Kruse International, was acquired by Auctions America by RM after becoming involved in widespread claims of business malpractice about three years ago. It is unclear whether the reorganization could be used as a way for Kruse to mount a comeback.
