Subject: [WPTA] Goodparts upgraded IRS axles and Corvair rear hubs for sale.

I have a set of upgraded Goodparts iRS rear axles (U-Joint style) assembled to modified Corvair hubs made by Marty Sukey that I don?t need any longer. I?d like them to go to someone who might need them. They are in excellent condition.

I replaced them on my 4A when I converted to the R-200 diff and Goodparts CV axles. I also have a pair of modified 4A trailing arms (they are different than TR6 trailing arms, not sure what 250?s used) for these axles with Keensert  inserts installed for the 6 hub mounting studs.

Make me an offer if interested. Will consider selling axles and hubs separately.

Note, if interested for a TR6 you must modify your trailing arms for U-joint clearance. The 4A trailing arms have a different bump stop arrangement and will not work on a TR6.

This car was at Road Atlanta , The Mitty, as part of the Group 44 reunion, 25th I believe 

They made a parade lap, Tullius in the E Type brought over from UK

It is an awesome race car

Very interesting Jerry, when it was out on the circuits, I took a picture of it,  I think it was at Watkins Glen. I had it enlarged to 9x12, it hung on the wall for years  Gee, I wonder what ever happened to it. You got me thinking of it. Kathy went in to Jefferson Hospital  yesterday , for a hip replacement. She seems to be doing well. It was strange, I had to drop her off at the door and leave with my mask on, go home and wait for a call or text.
Damn China Virus.
But at least they were able to do an elective surgery.
Hope to see everyone soon.

Thank you everybody about the good wishes on Kathy?s quick recovery, I will pass on to her. I would get Bruce to help with the hay, but I probably couldn?t keep him from driving his car through the hay and corn  fields. Jerry I am sorry they canceled the Hudson car show. We really enjoyed the day out there. It really is laid out nice and very relaxing. I guess we will have to go to your drive way this year.
I have found a little time on the 250. When I walk by the garage resistance is futile.  Thanks everybody. George

Also Jerry, I delivered the D-Type last Sunday. What a blast to drive.
I only hope this guy drives it. He had me put in a remote brake, the kind you use on drag racing to keep you from jumping the line, however now it is an anti roll back device, because he doesn?t trust himself with a clutch. I guess better to be safe than sorry on Pittsburgh hills.

Guess I will put my 2 cents in;
Back in the late 70's the car was running at the old Nelson Ledges 
"Cumberland" regionals.
Lori couldn't get over the little old guy who's job it was to "quick wax" 
the car every time it came into the pits.
The car "cut" a tire on the last practice and had to go out at race time on 
"fresh slicks" at the back of the pack.
Tullius finished second to a local Youngstown guy in a C2 Corvette.
Great race

It's nice to want to open up outdoor activities in PA, but following CDC
guidelines as referenced in the proposed legislation will likely create a
finacial burden for many small business owners. If a facility want to open,
say for racing at Pitt Race or the Pittsburgh Vintage GP event, I would
imagine the cost would be borne by the entrants since spectators would like
not be permitted access due to social distancing problems.   Need a vaccine
that works.

Agree John.  NHRA has postponed again until August.  We are paid for the Nationals at Norwalk that would have been the end of June.  I'm waiting to see what the plan is but will go for a refund unless there is a drastic change.  I'm hoping they do rain checks so we don't lose our trackside camp spot.  Under present conditions, not spending a weekend with thousands of strangers.  In that case, it could possibly be done without spectators since they could still make some money off the TV coverage. As for my own racing, I tell everyone my S10 will be there when this is over.  I want to try my best to still be here also.   So even if something is opened up, doesn't mean everyone is going to flock in.

The Pittsburgh Vintage Grand Prix understands how trying the uncertain
health and economic situation has become due to the COVID-19 outbreak. We
hope that you and your loved ones are safe and healthy.

We remain hopeful that conditions will permit us to stage our events, and
that the proceeds can be directed toward our charities, who need our
assistance more than ever. We appreciate everyone's understanding and
support during these unprecedented times.

The purpose of this survey is to quickly gauge the interest of our historic
racers to participate with the PVGP at Pittsburgh International Race
Complex on July 17-19. We hope to stage this race with our partners at the
VRG this summer and this looks like it could be one of the first races of
the vintage season.

We are formulating a plan with the track that follows SCCA was well as
state and federal guidelines. As a result, adjustments may need to be made
to the event:
- The PVGP will not host the Test & Tune that was scheduled for Thursday,
July 16. The track may offer a session, details to follow.
- Since we presume large gatherings will continue to be discouraged, we
currently doubt we can have the Friday night Driver Reception or the
Saturday night party. We plan to have food vendors available and the PVGP
will provide beer. We encourage racers to gather in their paddocks for
smaller parties.
- The Drivers Meetings will be done in smaller groups.
- We are working with Heacock Insurance to alter the waiver process to
reduce the bottleneck at registration.
- The early discount has been extended from May 1 until June 15.

SU CARBURETORS! These are SU carburetors, which were used on many British sports cars, such as this MG. Here are some guidelines on maintaining SUs!

* If your carburetors don?t leak, you are out of gas. (This rule is similar to the ?MG test for oil?).
* The only time your carburetors run properly is when a mechanic is taking a test drive.
* SU carburetors parts are interchangeable. You can replace a faulty part with a new one and the carburetor will run just like it always did.
* When replacing needles, the only parts store with the correct ones will be in Coventry or on a ship floundering in an Atlantic storm.
* When you get the correct carburetor needles, one of them will be bent.
* The universal SU repair Kit will work on all carburetors except yours.
* A float will only have a hole in it if it is Sunday and the parts store is closed.
* No two repair books will recommend the same fluid for the dampers.
* Whitworth nuts and bolts are similar to SAE nuts and bolts except that the shoulders are rounded off.
* Tightening the jet nut will automatically move the jet off center.
* All levers and jets will move smoothly if (and only if) the carburetor is sitting on the kitchen table.
* MG carburetors are infinitely adjustable. That is they can be set anywhere from ?not quite right? to ?totally wrong?.
* Despite the above, a weekend working on the MG carburetors is preferable to fixing the oil leak.

SU CARBURETORS! These are SU carburetors, which were used on many British sports cars, such as this MG. Here are some guidelines on maintaining SUs!

* If your carburetors don?t leak, you are out of gas. (This rule is similar to the ?MG test for oil?).
* The only time your carburetors run properly is when a mechanic is taking a test drive.
* SU carburetors parts are interchangeable. You can replace a faulty part with a new one and the carburetor will run just like it always did.
* When replacing needles, the only parts store with the correct ones will be in Coventry or on a ship floundering in an Atlantic storm.
* When you get the correct carburetor needles, one of them will be bent.
* The universal SU repair Kit will work on all carburetors except yours.
* A float will only have a hole in it if it is Sunday and the parts store is closed.
* No two repair books will recommend the same fluid for the dampers.
* Whitworth nuts and bolts are similar to SAE nuts and bolts except that the shoulders are rounded off.
* Tightening the jet nut will automatically move the jet off center.
* All levers and jets will move smoothly if (and only if) the carburetor is sitting on the kitchen table.
* MG carburetors are infinitely adjustable. That is they can be set anywhere from ?not quite right? to ?totally wrong?.
* Despite the above, a weekend working on the MG carburetors is preferable to fixing the oil leak.

I seem to remember being faster than a certain TR a few times but that was with a Mikuni.  I've always said these aren't bad cars if you put enough Japanese parts on them. LOL

I have SU?s on my ?59 Morgan, never had a problem but am trying a Weber 40 DCOE on a Midget I am restoring.

I?m wiring it from scratch with a Painless kit so the chances of it running are not good so it might as well look the part.

guy.  Being a Triumph guy I knew Strombergs, and from autocrossing and
performance improvements Webers pretty well.  Between the 2 of us we had
like 4,732 years of experience with the things.  I don't recall we ever
had a car come in with carb problems we couldn't fix.  Sometimes it took
a while, often just to ascertain for certain that the carb was the
problem, not the ignition.  That alone is a major part of the battle.

One of my favorite moments was this fellow had a really nice Jaguar E
type coupe sporting 3 SUs.  He had some driveability issues, and I spent
some time fussing with it.  He came in to pick up the car, but I wasn't
quite done.  I was doing the final tweaking and balancing, he watched me
for a while.  I did the final balancing as he watched, adjusting each
carb by ear, just listening to the engine idle.  No hose in the carb
throat for me. I tightened up the linkage, satisfied with my work.  I
told him I better check to see how close they are.  I grabbed an airflow
meter, one a little fancier than the usual flat plate with the vertical
tube and the red plastic bobber.  This one had a numbered scale.  He
watched as I put the tester to each carb, and each carb gave the exact
same reading.  He was REALLY impressed!  I was just really glad I got
that lucky!

Just letting the local guys know of a GT6 for sale:

For sale: 1973 GT6 I purchased it in 2018 from a fellow in California who purchased it in 2011 and then did a restoration in 2016-17. The vehicle has 88,000 miles on it and is an ?excellent? driver. My local mechanic (Pittsburgh) has done work on the vehicle and is available to anyone who would like to discuss the mechanics of the car. No rust, no blue smoke, starts right up and shifts effortlessly. All gauges work and the only things that do not work are the heater and radiator. Asking price is $14k. I'm thinking probably so Jerry.  Best it went was a 13.50 something over 100.  That's on street tires which was always a challenge to launch.  You can hear it bog on this run.  It was usually that or blow the tires off.  I doubt the drive train would hold up with slicks.  Thank you for the kind compliments too.  The FTD was for an MG the year it was the featured Marque. I started building go-carts out of old lawn mowers as a kid.  My Parents took me to see the movie Grand Prix downtown Pittsburgh on Cinamascope when I was a teen but not quite old enough to drive yet.  Then they wondered why I was always getting speeding tickets and my car was always broke. LOL

Wray, I did turn it red that run but that doesn't affect the time since the timer starts when the tire leaves the beam even if it's early.  And for whomever asked, yes Keystone Raceway Park.  Charles would rent the track for an afternoon during the Summer Party.   I believe the AutoX was at the college parking lot the year of this video.  Great times with good friends and memories to last a lifetime.
