OK, so who on the list is under 56? How many are over my age of 76?

Racer Steve,
Welcome to the real MG's have 4 doors group. I am the teenager in this
wily old group at 64 lol. Have a 74.5 BGT that is still being restored but
is on the road and about 95% done. A 70B Heritage body shell that my wife
claims is hers and "Jeanne" our family car. She is a 58 ZB steel blue and
gets the best awards at car shows. Named after my 92 year old Mother.
Your collection is impressive. Good luck and Safety Fast!

Hey Racer Steve ("RS"?) -
Your racing pedigree deserves respect, and
you have mine! ' Never raced. ' Did a bit of autocrossing many
years ago - only to discover that under pressure of competition, I lose all
respect for the machine, and just run it balls to the wall. ' Surprised I
didn't destroy my poor old '73 B/GT; but I did learn that I have the wrong
temperament for competitive driving.
We have some inventory in common: I'm putting
my '65 B together. It was a basketcase I bought in '89, and it has yet
to see the road. A few other projects intervened, including my '57 ZBV
Magnette. ' Have never had a TF but did have a TD for several years.
Like you, age has been an increasing factor. I still can get up and down
from my creeper a dozen times per hour while working on the MGs, but with
age 76 coming up in a couple weeks, can't help but wonder how long this will
last. I'm having to adjust my attitude: if I can do it today, that's
all I need to know. Once I finish the '65, the '60 A 1600 and the '69
C/GT are next. I'll be darned if my long range plans should be limited
by my long range prognosis (and even that looks pretty good). I've known
guys restoring these cars well into their 90s - why give up 15 years short
of that? Nevertheless, old age sucks, as I'm sure you'll agree.
OK, so my B/GT is a '73, but I do have a '69
C/GT. OK, not even close, but I got the year right, and I love the
car. It's been lurking in the back of my shop for seven years, but recently,
courtesy of Robert Kirk, it has brakes! Drives great around the
yard. A few new switches and I can at least drive it.
In the meantime, my recently-restored
Magnette keeps presenting me with nagging new and continuing problems.
Clutch is leaking down internally, so I've got an M/C problem. Not
really major, except I'm not looking forward to pulling the damn
thing.
In the meantime, my daily-driver '73 GT has a
cracked head - again... I've run it on the cracked head for perhaps a
year. It really runs well. Fast enough to put the proverbial smile on
my face, but I have to address that head! And since I'm thinking of
something akin to a Burgess econotune head, I think I'll have to go through
the bottom end again too. ' Rebuilt the whole thing back in '92 but oil
pressure doesn't go to 75# any more... There's a bit of magic going on
in this old cracked head. ' Have no idea what it is, but don't want to
lose it in the replacement. ' Might pick your brain a bit if you don't
mind.
At any rate, welcome again! So glad to
see new folks respond so quickly. ' Look forward to your presence on
the list.
Cheers,
Allen

Wow! Appears you guys are really MG fans, a really good thing.
In the early 70's I raced one of the E Production Huffaker MGB’s in the
Cal .Club region of the SCCA, so how about “Racer Steve?”
My first car was a 1955 TF, which I still have. We're in the process of
getting it back together after way too many years of “rest.”
I also have a ‘65 MGB that I built up while working at Huffaker
Engineering. It's overdue for a freshening up, a ‘69 BGT that needs a
complete restoration, a “55 ZA Magnetite that's in line after the TF, and
I’m almost done with my “62 Mini Countryman. I just hope I live long enough
to get them all done and don't run out of $$$.
Looking forward to meeting everyone on the “List.”
Cheers,
Racer Steve
PS: I also raced a Formula Atlantic car way back then, and more
recently a “65 Mini Cooper S and a Turner MKIII that I just sold. Probably
won’t race any more due to back and shoulder problems (too dam old!)
