TO ALL ROOTES GROUP DEALERS

LUBRICANTS

We receive a number of inquiries regarding the effects of adding any of the proprietary Molybdenum Disulphide based additives compounds to the lubricants of our various mechanical units, and perhaps more to the point, we are asked frequently if there is any need to use such additives.

If conventional lubricants are perfectly satisfactory for the lubrication of any given bearing, there is no purpose to be served in adding anything.

Bearings lubricated in accordance with our standard recommendations used under normal operating conditions and running within their defined capacity, can obviously derive no benefit from the addition of MoS2 to the lubricant

There are certain applications on our vehicles where the addition of such additives can lead to dissatisfaction. The makers of the overdrive unit fitted to Rootes Group vehicles have stated that MoS2 additive should not be used in their units and we also feel there is danger of the synchromesh action being affected in our gearboxes if the normal lubricants are interfered with.

To summarise, there is no need to use these additives under normal conditions and, in the case of overdrives and gearboxes, they are not recommended.
