Roland,
Good to hear you're still around.. yeah I even have to do some work sometimes!
I am doing a program for National right now, and they haven't gotten back to
me about the next step... typical.
Well the ol converted Alpine is NOT driveable cuz I took alot of it apart...
I am working on replacing the Pinto rack with a Chevy Cavaleer (forget
how to spell it) GM J-body rack. I think one of the worst problems with the
Tiger is the steering geometry. Ol Shel took the easy way out and retained
the Alpine front crossmember. When he added the rack he had to put it soo far
forward that the ackerman angles are completely backwards (the car toes in on
corners instead of toe out). I am putting the rack underneath the engine
in the back instead. I did some computer checkout and I can get almost
perfect geometry. Had to do away with the exhaust headers and go back to
manifolds though. Still alot of details to work out, it still might not
fit and I haven't touched the project in a long time... If you want to see
it come on over! Its sitting up on jack-stands/ramps with a half finished
paint job, stripped dash, etc... probably should have just left it together!
Just couldn't stand that light (Mediteranian) blue dented up body.
Maybe when it gets warm eneough to crawl back under there I will get some
more enthusiam to work on it.
Gary
