Input/Exhaust manifold problem

Dear fellow Alpine netters:

I need some advice: I can't figure out the size of a missing bolt in
my Series V engine - it seems to be non-standard. I discovered the
other day that the upper bolt on top, near the back of the engine,
that holds that manifold to the engine block was missing. It seems
to be 7/16" in diameter, but neither 7/16" SAE course nor 7/16" SAE
fine threads fit.

Now - before anybody calls me stupid or lazy - I realize I could
check the size by removing the companion bolt on the opposite side of
the manifold, but I'm afriad of unseating the manifold gasket if i do
this. (I am trying to avoid having to replace the gasket because in
the past it has proven to be a really big, unpleasant job.) Another
possibility is that the bolt *is* a standard size and my threads are
messed up, but before I run a tap through there I thought I'd check
with my fellow net experts!

Thanks.
