I have been overwhelmed by the response I have had to my initial letter when I
made a request to join your mailing list, as it was sent on the first day I was
connected to the Internet, I have to admit I had not read the Instructions, so I
have been replying to the senders direct. Apologies Autox.team.net all replies
will be sent to yourselves for distribution in future, I think thats what you
are supposed to do! I must read those instructions.

In reply to Bob Hamilton,

Sorry Bob although my book does skim over the "Proper" Alpines I had always
thought they were adequately covered by the books "Works Team" and "Destination
Monte" as well as a couple of others, I did start to write a book that would
cover all of them but work stopped play. Now that I have retired at the grand
old age of 43 who knows it might get finished. I have to say I do have a vast
amount of information on most of the Rootes Group Cars including the Alpines of
the 50's so it should not be to difficult. What would you like to see in it?

In reply to Daniel Levitin and Kevin Meek

Just the type of imput I need, when I was first asked to write the book I was
only given about 2 months to complete it, so naturally it did not give me a
great deal of time to sit down and plan anything. This time it will be different
I have as long as it takes. Both Daniel and Kevin (and T Wiencek whose mail I
have replied to) have chosen the original detail as their main priority, yet I
have been concentrating on the racing history which is far more difficult. I
will change direction. I would imagine colour photographs could be a problem, I
will speak to the publishers. I would certainly hope we could incorporate a
colour chart of the paint and materials.

I had thought about incorporating the illustrations from the original Parts
Manual, but that might make the book to big, any thoughts?

Daniels comments about the spark plug made me laugh, about 10 years ago I was
the owner of a Volvo 122s one of the original works rally cars, went like a
bullet, had overdrive on all forward gears and although the interior was basic
it was one of the best cars I have driven, only one problem it had a tendency to
overheat and "pink". One day after the overheating made me late for work, a
colleague commented on my lateness and said "car overheated again, pity its a
great car" I said "you like it you can have it" and gave him the keys. Met him a
couple of years ago still driving the Volvo and guess what he said, yes you got
it he had solved the problems, how, he had taken it to various mechanics and
Volvo dealers in an attempt to rectify the problem and the last one suggested
the plugs were the wrong type for such a modified engine. When I first got the
car it had been standing for many years so I had the engine stripped and rebuilt
and the rebuilder had put in N9Y spark plugs, replacing the original N3's, N3's
were fitted to the car and it has been no problem since. And now I feel sick.

Now chaps, keep the ideas coming, thats what I joined you for. I am also looking
for material to use, so if you have any photographs or copies of documents you
think I should look at let me know, and I will send you my address. All will be
returned when copies have been made if required.

I have no doubt I will be speaking to you all again very soon.

Chris McGovern.
