The wire wheels on most Brit cars of this era were made by Dunlop. In a
brochure I have from British Wire Wheel in Santa Cruz, California, all
of the cars listed specify Dunlop. Daytons are listed as alternatives,
but as far as I know Daytons were never OEM on any British car. While
Alpine isn't listed, MG Midget is so I suspect Alpine wire wheels were
also manufactured by Dunlop. I notice BWW also sells 3-eared
knock-offs.
Dunlops wire wheels are still being manufactured under license in India
and are still available new. I've heard that the quality of today's
Dunlops isn't up to the OEM wheels made in the UK. If I were buying new
today, I'd probably opt for Daytons.
I seem to recall reading on the british-car list a while back that there
is a company in the UK that manufactures repo wire wheels for MGs. I
think there is also a company in Australia that does the same.
Several UK rebuilders and suppliers are listed in the giant supplier's
list available form the british-cars archives.
