Just a week ago my car, series 5 alpine, decided to stick it's throtle,
not the first time. What happened was a screw from the butterfly valve
fell out the valve slipped down not letting it close all the way. Joy,
now the search was on for the screw. Today I removed the head (an easy
task after the amount of times I have done it) and found no screw but I
know what cylinder it went through. There are thread marks, about two
dozen of them, on the flat part of the head. The only marks in the
piston seem to be in the carbon build up. Now I just have to look
through the valve to make sure no real harm was done, but it looks like I
was lucky.
Anyway, I was trying to get to my point. I was wondering if anyone has
tried to convert to a dual weber setup with the DCOE's or the equivilent
from another manufacturer. I was planing on vintage racing the car in
the near future (the next few years), thats why I was looking for the
over kill in the carbs. If anyone has done this or knows of someone or
where I can turn next I would love to hear about it, good or bad.
Oh, I also have a series 4 alpine intake manifold and new weber DGV 32/36
carb for sale if anyone is interested. Price is around $225.
