Subject: Carbs

I have an interesting problem. I have a Series IV with the 1600 CID engine
with the Stromberg 150CD carbs from the Series V. When I first bought this
machine back in 1970, my mechanic used trial and error to get the right need
les for this combo. It wor!
ked fine until recently. Now I idle great, but when I give about half thro
ttle, I buck and miss. If I pull the choke out (richen the mixture) it is s
mooth. If I richen the mix at the carbs, it doesn't idle well. Do you thin
k the needles have worn? H!
ow can I fix this? Any help would be appreciated.

I am not an expert on Strombergs, but I will say that I have had a few
problems that may be your culprit: (1) the diaphram may be cracked, (2)
the float bowl may be sticking or the jet may be malfunctioning (try the
Groose jet), or (3) the throttle rod may be worn and leaking. I would say
that #2 is your best bet as to the problem -- although #1 and #3 may be
bad too, I do not know if they would cause the problem described.
