The shifter "feel" will no doubt be different. To many people the feel of the
shift mechanism is as important (within reason) to the actual ratios involved.
The noises the transmission makes will be different. Other than that the
feel you get from the transmission is almost all dependent on the ratios. If
the ratio spacing and the final ratio is the same, the car should accelerate
and drive much the same.

The Alpine ratios are quite nice from an acceleration/performance driving point
of view. First is not to squatty (relatively) and the gear spacings are pretty
close for a 1600 four banger. The majority of the mechanical advantage is in
the rear end (just the way I like it but not for everyone) which is only a
problem for freeway cruising RPM (or hadn't you noticed (-: ). I like it
despite the fact that I traded mine in on a T5.
