  OFFICE MEMO Tranny oil Date:9/13/95

I've got a friend with a series II who just installed an o.d. transmission.
He
wants to know what type/viscosity gear oil to use. I've got a series V with
 a
289 so as you can tell, I'm obviously confused.
***** NOTES from Jay Laifman (JLAIFMAN (at) PNM) at 9/14/95 9:06a
From what I understand, one should not use synthetics with an overdrive,
though synthetics work well for non-overdrives. I do know that many
manufacturers use heavier grades than the 30 weight that many English
manufacturers call for. The guy who rebuilt my overdrive (which is still
empty and out of the car) works for Ford U.K. in transmission
development. I've been meaning to write him to ask him your very
question. I will report his answer when I get it.
