Hardtops were a fairly common option for the early Alpine. As I stated before
it should be easy to find one. I started a restoration on a mid-west rough
(meaning lots of rust) Early Alpine. I stopped and bought a body from Arizona
and am in the process of transferring the parts from one to the other. Unless
the body of your car is good or you like sheet metal work or you have a lot of
money to pay someone to do it, I would not restore a rusty body. Buy the best
you can afford in the beginning and you will save a lot of time, trouble and
money. While waiting for the body from Arizona, I also bought one from
California. I will be selling it soon. If you are interested I will give you
more information on it. All Alpines had front disc brakes. If you don't have
it already, buy the Brooklands book on the Tiger/Alpine from Classic
Motorbooks. As for racing, talk to Steve Alcala in California. He races a
Series II.

I am planning to restore the car and am not interested in parting it
out. My real question was whether the removable hardtop makes a '61
Alpine rare or was the removable hardtop fairly standard equipment?

By the way, what condition is your Alpine in? Does it have disc
brakes? How does it perform? I may want to race mine in vintage
races but know little about how dependable and quick the Alpine was.

     I have a question.......
I have the opportunity to buy an rough '61 Alpine with removable hard
top. Is the hardtop considered a rarity for a '61 Alpine?
