Sounds like rust to me. In front of the doors is a common area. The
first Tiger I looked at (in 1971) had the same thing... my brother rapped
it with his knuckle an a big hole erupted..
Most Sunbeams have scratched windshields.. owners seem to never replace
the blades, its not such a big deal. Both of mine have come with the
scratch. The trunk lid along the bottom edge
is prone to rust too, water seems to leak from the SUNBEAM letters and
holes for the license plate and collects inside.. I now drill drain holes
there that the factory forgot.

Sounds kind of high to me.. I would guess more like $2500... but I am no
Alpine expert.
