My wife Marla and I participated in the British car concours
this weekend. This event is located here in Santa Cruz at the
Pasatiempo Inn, and we really enjoyed it! The emphasis is on
british roadsters of all marques which are regularly driven
and enjoyed. Everyone who is entered in the event gets to vote
for their favorite car in each class, and silver plate trophies
are then awarded to the first place winner. There is a very
nice brunch available, then everyone is encouraged to go for
an organized drive in the afternoon.
Last year, there were only 3 Sunbeams entered; 2 Tigers and
our Alpine. We got stomped in the voting, as my Alpine could
be charitably described as a "daily driver". I did get the
opportunity to speak at length with one of the Tiger owners,
which eventually led to deciding to purchase our Tiger.
This year there were 4 Sunbeams entered, all Tigers. I hadn't
met any of the owners, and enjoyed looking at the other
cars. Gary Winblad, Paul Reisentz and Peter Silva came by to
check out the scene as well - we had a MkI, IA, II, and right
hand drive car available for inspection!
I thought this event had been widely advertised - but I heard
that the event organizer (Bill Meade) didn't fill the show
until the last minute. Next year, I'll try to get that info
distributed way in advance, as it would be great to have
more Sunbeams there. BTW, we won 1st place in the Sunbeam
class with our Tiger =8-0
