Just a short note about a problem with the distributor on my series v. The
previous owner had the engine torn down and left it that way for about five
years. The head, carbs and dist. were in the trunk. He then hired a
mechanic to reassemble it for him. He got the car back and running ok for
a while, then it started having starting problems. He got so frustrated
that he decided to sell the car. This is where I come in. Just yesterday
I was looking at the dist. while reinstalling it. ( the engine was torn
down again by me) and I saw that the lobes on the shaft of the dist. where
so rusty that they acted just like sand paper and wore down the plastic
follower so bad that the points weren't even opening. So I guess it's a
good idea to check that out once and a while and make sure the lobes are
properly lubed. I'm going to go after it with 600 grit sand paper and
install new points also lube . Apparently while the dist. was in his trunk
it got rusty and wasn't caught by the mechanic he hired.(along with two
broken rings and badly ridged cylinders, that's why it got torn down again)
so I just thought to write this , if anyone else has had a problem with
hard starting you might want to check for rust on the dist. cam lobes.
