Great news in the UK budget. The chancellor has decreed that road tax is no
longer payable on motors over 25 years old.
This is a real turn-around from the concept mooted earlier this year that all
cars, whether on the road or not, would be liable for tax. A triumph of
effective lobbying, which included an orchestrated campaign by SAOC, which
represented the greatest proportion of MP's mailbags, with the one exception of
animal rights.
Unlike tax increases, such as those on fuel etc. which take effect immediately,
this starts at the oputset of the next tax year, April '96
Presumably it will still be necessary to display a tax disc ??
I assume that owners with paid up road fund licenses will be able to cash them
in as of the effective date.
I wonder where's the catch ?
