I need to rebush the throttle plates on my Zenith WIA carberators. Does
anyone know if there are butterfly shafts and bushings that will fit
these old carbs. A member of my local british car club can make new
bushings, but making new butterfly shafts is very $$$$.
Also, I have a series V engine in my series II car. I have the old
series II head which is in good shape. I have thought about having the
series II head rebuilt to handle unleaded fuels and then swapping it onto
my series V engine so that I don't have much down time. Are there any
significant differences in the series II head other than the water jacket
for the manifold preheater?

***** NOTES from Jay Laifman (JLAIFMAN (at) PNM) at 12/12/95 12:25p
Before embarking on my Weber odessey, I looked into getting the
Stromberg shafts rebuilt and/or getting bushings with no luck here in Los
Angeles. I confess no personal knowledge on the subject. I was told that
each type and model of carb required a special custom built jig and no
one I could find had one. As interest in the Webers grew, my efforts to
find someone to do the work shrank. My last avenue was some guy who
rebuilds Strombergs for Jaguars and sells NOS parts. He was no help, but
there may be others out there. Good luck. Do report what you eventually
find.
