a) Yes it is an Imp, probably a Sunbeam Imp Mark 2 (maybe a Chamois Mark 2)
If it is a Chamois it should have real wood on the doors inside and dash all round.
b) The engine should have been a watercooled 4cil 875 cc/ 42 HP all
alloy engine, canted over 45 degrees, with an alloy 4 gears
transaxle, (gearbox plus final drive) with all synchromesh on the
four gears.
looking into the engine compartment you should see an alloy waterpump separate
from the engine and behind that a radiator on the left hand side.
on the righthand side should be the battery, in and exhaust manifold and
carburettor (a single solex carb).
maybe you have the sport version (55HP) of that engine and you should have twin
carburettors on it (twin strombergs 1.25 CD) together with an oil cooler.
Have a look at the engine/chassis number on the engine just behind the distributor
on the block there should be a number like B123456789LSO
c) You're asking a lot now:
First buy the workshop manual before you start working on it:
Imp Owners Workshop Manual
by J.H.Haynes & R.T.Grainger
ISBN 0 900550 22 8
Haynes Publishing Sparkford
Nr. Yeovil Somerset BA22 7JJ
or
Haynes Publications Inc. (USA)

Newbury Park
California 91320 USA
213 pages
The best workshopmanual besides the Rootes manual itself !
25 pounds
The whole Imp story is in this book:
APEX
The inside story of the Hillman Imp

foreword by Tim Fry
ISBN 1 870519 02 7
Bookmarque Publishing

Secondly see if it is complete.
If you take the engine apart be carefull with the headbolds, use a
torque wrench on all the bolds on aluminium and use the right torque.
To undo the headbolds you better get a proper torque wrench with which
you can set a maximum torque to undo a bold so they will not shear off
don't use forces higher then 70 NewtonMetre, if you can not undo a bold
use heat as well.
The engine is a lovely high revving little devil if kept in a good condition
otherwise it can be very disappointing.
Be aware of overheating, the cooling and waterpump are not very well constucted
Regards, Bert
