Topsy Tervy

I have not installed my top yet since getting the car running again. I
was wondering if anyone made any changes to how the top mechanism
actually attached to the pivot piece in the car. The original is a lever
arm with a bent tab. A bolt goes through the tab and then through to top
mechanism (or the other way, I don't recall). It is my recollection that
there was a lot of flex at this connection. I was thinking about
strengthening it (by welding or refabricating) by making that tab longer
so that two bolts could go through the top mechanism to stop the flex.
Anyone have any thoughts?
