Alpine wheel spacing and suspension.

A few people were interested in how I got the suspension on my alpine how
it is now. A few people commented that the whole car is lowered. In fact
the front suspension is the only end lowered. To do this I installed
tiger springs with one coil cut off. I used the tiger springs for the
increased spring rate they provide. It is good to have a stiffer spring
with so little wheel travel. With the 205/60/13 tires, it really
looks good (in my eyes). In the back, the springs are stock as is the
ride height. To eliminate the rub problem I had with the tires (same
size as the front) I installed some progressive rate bump stops. The
ones I used were from Rancho Suspension. I believe they are meant for a
Jeep CJ5, not positive about that though, but they are for a Jeep. The
bump stops are about 3 inches tall and are mounted onto a riser. The
riser is about 1-1 1/2 inches tall. It is U shaped with wings on the to
for mounting to the chassis. I bent the tabs over and welded it into the
chassis above the axle (where the stock bump stops are). I also
used a 1 inch by 2 inch tube section of steel for additional spacing. I
have the bump stop mounted so there is about 1 inch of free travel before
coming into contact with the bump stop, from here the spring rate rises
for another inch or so of travel. So far it has worked without a
problem, no rubbing since they have been installed. I hope this help out.

There was also a question about my choice of tires. I am running
Yokahama A509's. I would highly recommend these tires for a good mix of
affordability, high grip and some wet weather driving. I purchased mine
from a mail order tire company for $57 each.

The bump stops look something like this.

I hope this is a help. If there are any other questions, just ask.
