One bit of requested info is a SAL/Body number. Is this
number on the narrow plate under the hood on the right side
looking forward (at least on an S.II)? If not, where can it be found?
BTW - What does "SAL" mean?

Without that tag, your "SAL" might as well be "SOL"! It was the body
number and stood for "Sunbeam Assembly Line". It also indicates if the
car is a GT or not, and for early Series II's it was an oval plate which
said "Body Number" on it and for later Series II's, and on, it said
"SAL". Early Series II's had a body plate screwed to the left front face
of the rear seat with "RAS" on it, and later Series II's, and on, had a
plate on the rear seat pan. I have this in the SAOC member's handbook. I
have never seen this other tag on my Series V, and I'm not quite sure
what they mean by these identified locations. I guess I ought to go and
look for it.
Good luck.
