Last chance to submit your entry for the 1997 Sunbeam Calendar

Deadline extended to March 31; calendar expected to be ready between
August and October '96.

Our objected are to get not only a wide variety of Sunbeams (Alpines,
Tigers, Imps, Rapiers, Talbots, etc.), but also photos with
interesting and/or picturesque backgrounds. The February 1995 owned
by Dan Cameron, which had the beautiful old mansion in the background,
is a great example. Also extremely important are photo clarity and
composition. We can't stress this enough. Last year some great
photos could not be used because they were either obviously out of
focus or had a superfluous item such as a lawnmower in the background
(really!). Don't let this happen to you.

o 35mm slides are STRONGLY PREFERRED
o 35mm negatives with accompanying 3x5 prints are OK
o Up to four slides/negatives will be accepted per entry
o Be sure to include your name, address, and phone number

After the selection process is completed in mid-April, all entries not
chosen will be promptly returned. Owners of the selected
slides/negatives will be notified in mid-April and their
slides/negatives will be returned a few months later along with one
FREE copy of the calendar.

Please send your entry no later than March 31, 1996 to:

Make sure that the head is in excellent condition and is fresh. Three angle grind on the seats (30-45-60) and 45 on the valves. Do not do a 45 and 46 degree combination. The added heat and forces will burn the thin band of contact between the face and the seat. Also make sure the bottom end of the engine is fresh as well.

When assembling the engine, install the head with all of the pistons at their mid point of their stroke. ie half way down the cylinder. That way there is no chance for mistake in valve timing cause a valve to get jammed against a piston during assembly. Once the engine is assembled, rotate it slowly by hand with a breaker bar on the crank. Make at least two full rotations of the crank before using the starter motor. Rotate it slowly so you'll be able to "feel" any contact between the valves and pistons. Find the clearance problems this way, ....before you punch a hole through a piston with a valve.!!!

Good luck, and May Alpines live forever !!
