Subject: Headers

I am thinking about ordering a set of headers from Kirk Racing Products out
of Vestavia Hills, AL. Has anybody out there had any experience with this
company or their headers? They list a set for the Alpine for $177.

I don't know about that company. But, I was also looking for some new
headers for my Series V. I wanted to get them a little larger in
diameter to match the larger Holbay exhaust ports. The only place I found
was Paeco Import Parts in Birmingham, AL. What is it with Alabama and
obsolete parts? Anyway, they wanted $250. I posted a request to the
AutoX group about the company and got some pretty surprising responses
about long delays, bad quality and return problems. So, you may want to
try this AutoX group for opinions too.

Some other ideas: I did ultimately find a used set made of "stainless
steel" by a company called Double S Manifolds, or SS Manifolds, out of the
UK. They are the "Double-Y" design, like the earlier Series Alpines. The
are slightly larger than stock. But, I am less than thrilled with the
quality. I tried other shops that made headers for other British cars,
but didn't find anything for Alpines. Holbay has some too, but
expensive. And, I sent them a letter asking for details on them, and
never got a response.

I have a letter out to the Rapier club tech guy asking for the dimensions
on the stock Rapier H120. I understand the flow technology can be tricky
and that the company would have a leg up on some of these after market
guys. I'll let you know what they say. It's actually the same letter I
sent to Holbay that they never responded to.

Oh, one more thing. I said "stainless" because there are different grades
of stainless. These were made of the lesser grade so that they have
browned. But, I do not believe they will rust like plain steel.
