In addition to checking the throttle shaft bushings as mentioned elsewhere,
have you checked for vacuum leaks? Are the carbs synchronized? Timing too
far advanced?
Also, you write that the RPM's drop when you "push the clutch." On a rebuilt
engine that shouldn't happen. Were new thrust washers installed correctly?
Actually, a 1000 RPM idle isn't that bad if they're in sync.
