Which plug - the level plug is at the side of the diff about half way
up. I assume this is the one you are referring to.

You need to determine exactly where the leak is. But probably not.

You need a strong three legged puller to get the hub off first. This is
VERY tight on the taper. (about 150 ft lbs on the nut if I remember
correctly). The shaft will probably come out with a slide hammer and
some clever way of attaching it to the shaft using the removed hub or
it may come off with patient work with a soft mallet.
