Hope this helps you, Bill.
The original headliner was glued behind the front top rail. It was good
stuff, 'cuz it hung through a lot. After my first replacement, an early
casualty was the glue at the front. This probably wasn't helped by the car
sitting outside in winter with a foot of snow and 18 degree temperatures and
summer at 110 or so - yes, all in Southern California. The next time, after
gluing, we covered the line with a plastic retainer and it has held up well -
at least now that we're in the coastal strip.
The back glues around the window opening. The backglass must be removed. You
might as well get new molding rubber while you're doing the job (Rick McLeod
has them) and if the backlight is getting crazed or discolored, now is the
time to change that too. I don't know if Rick has them back in stock, but
the C.A.T. warehouse has some.
There are three wire strips that run from side to side to support the liner.
Make sure they are in good condition or you will feel like you're wearing a
bonnet.
Note the location for the screws that hold the side retainers. These go on
the outside (or inside, depending on your perspective) of the headliner.
What I'm trying to say is: that installation is your final step. Mine were
put in before the liner and as the screws work lose, its a pain to tighten
them without scarring the headliner.
