When I had my Alpine, I tried every stock carb setup there was. It
came originally with two barrel Solex, which whistled all of the time,
and was not a good performer. I then tried the side draft Strombergs CV
which I found much harder to tune than my Dad's Jag E-Type with three
BIG S.U's, and finally switched to the twin Zenith Down drafts. These
gave me by far the most power, and managed equivalent mileage as the
other two did. There was a set up for two Webber 38 DCOE's as I
remember. I chose not to try those, due to the added cost of the
Webbers!
By the way, my car was a 65 Series IV 1592, all stock with a free
flowing Abarth exhaust system off of the stock 4 into 2 into 1 header.
If I have made any errors here, it's because these memories are now
almost 20 years old.
