overdrive

I have recently become the proud owner of an honest to goodness Sunbeam
overdrive. It is missing the solenoid and my car, not having had an
overdrive originally, is missing the column switch, relay wiring harness,
etc. I have two questions.
First, a fairly knowledgable friend of mine
says that these units don't need to be rebuilt as a routine. He says
that if the clutch cone is good, then the chances are that the bearings
and everything else will be O.K. because they are better oiled and under
less of a load than the parts in the transmission. Is this correct, or
are there differing opinions.
Secondly, does anyone have the column switch, wiring harness,
relay, gearbox lock out switch, and solenoid that they may want to part
with? No rush as I won't be putting these parts together until the rainy
seasons hits this winter. I can't stand for my car to be down when the
sun is shining.
