Wow, I was just reading the book "Tiger: An Exceptional Motorcar" and it
discusses the efforts of the Rootes folks to increase the power of the
Alpine by having Ferrari re-design and build the engine! It was to have
re-engineered cylinder heads and exhaust system, and Weber carbs.
In 1962, Norman Garrard and Brian Rootes met with Enzo Ferrari in Italy.
They even worked out all the details. But, the very next day, for no
apparent reason, with no explanation, Enzo's office called and said "no
deal". And that was the end of the Sunbeam Ferrari. Too bad. I'd love
to know of the details that they worked out. The book doesn't mention if
the details were mechanical or business.
