Spring height

As some will remember, I had a concern about my front end sitting too
high. On reading the Workshop Manual I recently got from Sunbeam
Specialties, I noticed in the section on front ends, they describe a gap
guage that they use to measure between the top of the lower a-arm (right
behind the rubber bump stop) and the bottom edges of the metal bump stop
above. For the Alpine, they list the gap to be 2". Well, after changing
over to stock rubber insulators, that gap is 2.4/2.5" (I made a
few different width guages out of cardboard).
Another book I was reading mentioned that most Sunbeam's springs sag, so
the height many of us are used to, is lower than stock. For .4-.5 inches,
I guess I can buy the 1974 Ford Mustang II insulator which is very thin,
about 3/8", or I can live with it until my springs sag more. If I drive
by a Ford dealer when they are open, maybe I will run in - and the rubber
pieces will sit in my garage for a few months or more. Otherwise, I think
I am going to leave it as is.
