***** NOTES from Jay Laifman (JLAIFMAN (at) PNM) at 7/8/96 4:08p
From what I understand, the only thing that the number can tell you is when
the case was built, here August, 1965. As to what goes inside, and when
it finally made it into a car, the numbers apparently don't help. For
example, my Series V overdrive transmission has the identical numbers
except it reads "2DA" instead of your "6DA" (although maybe I am wrong on
my "2"), and the date is "16 6 66". From the date of August, 1965, I
think it is pretty unlikely that it made it into a Series IV car, meaning
this should be a Series V, all synchro transmission. You can tell by
finding where reverse is. If reverse is spring loaded to the right and
down, it is a Series V transmission (or very late Series IV trans, which
also has the all sychro). A very late Series V transmission would have a
fine spline first motion shaft. I don't recall if the gearing ratios
changed at all.
