A few weeks ago I showed a friend my current project (Alpine V), and she
remembered that her parents had raced Alpines in the 1960's. Well I just
recieved an envelope full of old racing photos that her dad (now living in
Mexico) had sent.
Photos Include:
1)Sunbeam Imp - modified Group II(Rally), which placed 4th at Teuerife
(Canary Islands), dated 5/5/68
2)Rapier MkIII - modified Group II on hill climb in Las Palmas, Canary
Islands (car is in 4 wheel drift)
3)Sunbeam Group 5 Racer - Elva Chassis w/Fraser modified Sunbeam Imp 1000cc
engine, 5sp gearbox.(he didn't own this one, but did drive it)
4)1300 ccAustin Cooper "S" engine in Austin 1100 chassis beating a Tiger at
GP of Las Palmas
5)1963 Alpine (at) Subida a Tafira (Hill Climb) in Canary islands
6)Factory Sunbeam Rapier MkIII at 1st Rallye International de Gran Canaria
(car has tipped on it's side)
7)Imp group IV modified, 1000cc, 5sp gearbox, Hillclimb in Canary Islands,
1968
8)"Venezia"- all aluminum body on Rapier III floor pan (2 photos inc. side &
front shots, New York license plate)
I do not have negatives and must send the photos back in due time, however
they may appear in a future Pacific Tiger Club Newsletter. If there is enough
interest, I will find a way to get them scanned and posted to the Alpine
page.
Take care,
David Gaab
