Alpine Clan,
Perhaps one of you mechanical types can help me with a problem that has
plagued the transmission in my alpine for some time.
The problem is this..
I rebuilt the trans last year and inspected every part for wear ect.
I looked at the synchros and cones really closely and they all looked good
in all respects. I replaced all bearings and seals and a pitted
laysahft. The trans was quiet, but hard or high speed downshifts into
second gear causes minor synchro grind. Also third gear pops out during
high speed deceleration ocasionally "5000 RPM". The trans works well
when driven a tad more normally, but thats not what I had in mind.
I really expect the transmission to give fast synchonized shifts and
I dont think this to be unreasonable.
I do understand the workings of the transmision and have succesfully
overhauled
more elaborate setups in the past. None of the obvious problems seem
likely to me "the synchro dogs and clutchs all look good to me".
I suspect that the third gear situation is marginal dog/synchros, but the
second gear problem is beyond me entirely.
The transmission is a late all-synch.
Your help would be appreciated.
