Frank,
I haven't needed to replace the bearings in either of the motors I've
rebuilt. The cage may be metal or plastic, either way they are not pressed
on, they have a lock nut which once undone allows the cage to be taken off.
Once you get the motor apart, which is easy. The bearings themselves are
the porous metal type and there is a gauze that they sit in which should be
soaked with oil and this should be allowed to seep in through the metal, and
perhaps once this has happened the gauze may take some more oil. Perhaps
this is a solution to your problem.
Anthony, series II Alpine with rebuilt blower motor, metal cage (non original)
mark I Tiger, " " " " , plastic cage (? original).
