I had that problem.
Got a bit (1/2 inch) of thin walled pipe (copper/brass??), and
squashed it so that it fitted the rod in the visor. Carefully drilled
out the bracket so the pipe would fit in the hole. Epoxied the pipe
into the bracket. During this process be careful that no epoxy gets
into the pipe as this will prevent the rod going in!!
