Well, I must say that I never owned a Pacer, but I do own an Alpine
and owned a Vega. Some comments follow:

Actually, I have heard these horror stories but not experienced them.
I inherited with my marriage a 1973 Vega GT with 130,000 miles on
the odometer and it still ran very strong and didn't overheat or
smoke ! I later replaced the motor with a 327 V8 and that really
made an improvement. I drove it for over 50,000 miles after that and
finally sold it. I had zero problems with it and found it to be an
OK car. I wouldn't ever call it a great car but it was OK.

Actually, the Cosworth Vega is the subject of collectors since they
were rare and had a totally different motor.
>I heard the Pontiac Fiero has a lot of Vega parts.
Most people don't realize that the Monza was simply a Vega with a
different body and motor. The suspension design was actually quite
good and made it into the later model Camaros as the basis for that
design. Not that I would buy a newer GM car anyhow !
Personally, I like my Alpine and Jaguars much better than any other
cars that I have owned and never intend to rid myself of them until I
am too old or stupid to repair them.
