2.25" seems like a lot. I believe he was going for the diameter of the axles.
The newer Series V with the big and powerful 1725 switched over to the
thicker axle.
The difference is probably 1/8 " in diameter and either are about 1.25" in
diameter.
I tried to place an old hub on my new axle and only got half way down. The
wider diameter
hubs are very difficult to find. I took that last used one from Smitty.
