Ahhhhh, it feels so good to be right once in awhile. To answer some of your
questions: I have wondered too why SB doesn't appear on the engine blocks as
well, but I have NEVER seen SB on one; it makes sense since there was no
difference in the engines bound for America vs. those that stayed in the Home
market, but it looks like bodies destined for America were stamped with SB

 Rootes had a separate factory in France that built certain models; I don't know
if they were CKD units or not; I'll check tonight; I've seen a French-built
Series 3 GT and it had a distinct data plate

I believe Lucas Industries bought Girling and hence the Lucas/ Girling you see
on the boxes
