I must point out that I stand corrected. The Harrington Alpine
that won the Index of *Thermal* Efficiency in 1961 had a stock engine
equipped with dual 36 WIA Zenith carbs. For some reason, I thought the
Harrington Alpines came with Webers. But, the picture and text in
McGovern's book could not be clearer. I do have an article about a later
Le Mans Alpine with dual Webers. That must be where my brain's Lucas
wiring crossed.
A related note, I really like the look of the winning car's front end with
the covered headlights and rounded fenders and front valiance. Was this
the only car with this set up? Has anyone ever attempted to do it to an
Alpine (or Tiger) later? Anyone have any idea what car the headlight
buckets came from?
