I have an Alpine S IV, brought over to Norway from England by myself a
couple of years ago. Not the biggest beauty of all, but it runs.
I have done some repairs on the sills, cross beams and floor pans resulting
in even-gapped doors that open and close when I want them to, and never
else. I have also replaced that infamous windscreen frame.
The previous owner had never heard of that procedure of car repairs called
welding, but apparently he had a fair knowledge of various types of fillers.
The paint work is also not of the best. Major body work is therefore
needed, but lack of time and motivation means that it will have to wait for
a couple of years. In the meantime I'm trying to tidy up some of the soft
trim and interior.
When I bought the car the left (passenger) side window glass was missing, a
second hand one was bought in the UK, and fitted. The problem now lies in
the rolling up and down of the window. The two small 'wheels' that are
supposed to roll around inside the rail at the top of the mechanism, don't.
It seems like the rail is a bit too narrrow. This resulting in the window
being pushed back and forth when the roller is turned rather than up an
down. It is my understanding that this part of the mechanism is very
sensitive to too much friction. Could the window, or the mechanism be
unoriginal? Are any of these interchangeable with parts from other makes? If
not, any sollutions to repairing it?
