I measured the steel header from my parts pile. It is probably from a Series
II 1594 cc engine. It is made from 1.25 in. inside diameter pipe. The end
pipes are cut at 90 degrees so the ID is a 1.25 in circle but the two inside
pipes are cut at an angle giving an ellispe of about 1.30 x 1.21 in. I guess
Rootes wasn't to worried about matching the ports!
I wonder if the headers were smaller diameter tubing for the 1494 cc (Series I
) engine. Any difference in the ports between a Series I and II head or Later
Series? Does anyone know?
I hope this helps. Tom

Tom,
Yes, please look at it. I need to know if it is *definitely* 1 3/8" or
more in ID. The stock cast manifold is 1 5/16" - so we are talking a
difference of 1/16" plus. I realize this is a small difference but my
Holbay head has exhaust ports of 1 3/8" while my cast manifold has the 1
5/16" tubes so there is a *step* of 1/16" which I believe causes
turbulance I'd like to eliminate. Plus, I just read that the company
lost horsepower from the change in order to lower noise. And I like noise.
Thanks
Jay
