Electronic Ignition

I finally gave up on the stock ignition system and installed an electronic
ignition system from Crane (model XR3000, without ballast resistor). I used a
coil from an 85 VM GLI (an extra I had around). The result is much more
reliable performance, ease of starting, wider gap in the plugs (hotter spark),
better fuel efficiency, well you get the idea.

The Crane ignition is really easy to install, took about 30 minutes and about
another 30 minutes of fussing with the timing to get it right. Total cost was
about $130 for the ignition system and $30? for a hotter coil. Very worth it.

Since I now have electronic ignition, a Bosch alternator and halogen hedlamps,
how much more of the Lucas electrics can I remove and still say I have a
british car?
