Karl,
even 185 width tyres shouldn't foul the bodywork when you have a standard
rear axle set up. Alpines with the steel wheels had so much clearance under
there it wasn't funny and standard wire wheels still give you adequate
clearance with 185 tyres. (I've got 185/70 HR13 on mine and they used to
foul because somebody had put converters {these were just splined hubs which
bolted on in place of wheels which you could then place the wire wheels
onto} on the back to get the wire wheels on but now that I have the correct
half shafts there is no rubbing)
One issue could be that you have deeper dished wheels, or wire wheels with
more offset than usual I guess. I don't know if you have wire wheels or not,
but there was just so much room there at the back I suspect there are
converters in there or perhaps spacers if you have steel wheels.
btw 175/75 r13's should have the same radius as 185/70 r13's if you can get
them.
